Turtle Creek Farm

Avery and her buddies at Jen-Jen's went to Turtle Creek Farm this morning.  It's owned and operated by good friends, and Avery and I were equally excited to go.  The gang went last year, and Ned had planned to go, but Avery was sick.  I was determined that I would not miss this 2nd chance at a first field trip.

Avery was a little quiet when we arrived (maybe the 5:30 a.m. wake up??) but she warmed right up on the hayride, pointing out all of her "buddies."  Buddies is my favorite word to hear her say right now.  I had my 50mm lens so it was a little close for hayride pictures, and we were packed a little tightly.  Avery was thrilled to be on the tractor and was even more excited that we went up a hill.

Once the hayride was done we headed to see the bees.

Avery was in love, and I think she would live in the bee house.

We then made our way over to the cows.  You can tell Avery is one of Jen-Jen's babies as she is right at home on the farm.  I really think her tiny head could have fit in their mouths.  I also really think she would have been all over those cows had the fence not been there.

After tormenting the cows we moved on to the maze.  Avery took right off without me, but I did have to jump through some weeds at one point when she fell down.  The boys finally found the red bucket so that everyone could get a sticker.

Then it was time to pick a pumpkin.  Avery left no pumpkin untouched in her search for the one that was just right.

Faithful readers will know that this was one of the main attractions for Avery.  The bus that the Pre-K from Southampton Academy was stiff competition for the tractor though.

Blair did a milking demonstration, but Avery was too preoccupied with the tractor and bus.  She and Livia carried on a conversation about the trip while everyone else watched.

The corn was a big hit with everyone.  Blair found out that the demonstration here was a bit tough as the kids would rather be in the corn than watching what he was doing.

I left Avery with Jen-Jen so that I could get some lunch and get back to school by 12:00.  Everyone was getting a little antsy, so I think they finished up with the animals and headed out.

We can't wait to go back!  Avery has been for a visit before with my mom, and I'm hoping to get back soon when maybe it's just us.  I love seeing Avery experience new things and only wish we could bottle up the wonder of this age.

I agree - why can't we bottle up the wonder of this age. Another thing, don't you wonder why kids are not smarter since they get all this early exposure to things like farms. Why is it that Sesame Street teaches things that my first graders still had no clue about it?
