Construction ~ Week 7

Things slowed a bit this week at the house, which was certainly expected.  Shingles were finished, and metal pieces were added to the roof.  I think it's called flashing, but whatever it is, it allows for siding to go on next week.  We thought that was coming this week, but I think Ned misunderstood.

We did our walk through with Clint and the electrician yesterday.  I'm hoping that it's the last meeting in the house until someone turns the air on for me.  Windows and doors cut out any chance of a breeze, and one hour nearly killed me.  I gave my "I don't climb ladders" ultimatum, which was going to save me from going into the even hotter upstairs.  A ladder never arrived which saved the men too.  We went room by room and decided on where light fixtures, cable, phones, etc. would go.  It was more decisions than I was actually prepared to make.  It's hard to know exactly where you might need a phone jack one day.  I tried to give him an idea of things upstairs, but I have no idea where beds are going in any of those 3 bedrooms, especially since these rooms will transition from baby to child to teenager.  I promised to do some thinking, and Clint finally promised to build me some steps after some picking nudging from me.

In addition to the electrical, the plumbing, air, and security will begin soon as well.  Everything that goes behind the walls must be done before the drywall is hung.  I'll be picking out some of our tubs and showers soon so that the plumbing can be fitted for those.  Clint tells me that picking those out will be my last decision for a bit, but I'd really like to get a good portion of our cabinetry, especially kitchen, out of the way.  I hate to eat up a summer day with that, but I know decision making won't be a strong suit in the weeks to come.  I have also been looking at lighting so I know what rooms I want to splurge in and what places I can be economical so that it all comes in under budget for our lighting allowance.  Under budget is my goal for all the allowances as we went over budget in first 2 weeks.  Funny how that can happen.

Pictures to come next week, hopefully of siding and upstairs.
