Week in Review ~ 6/30

We had a good, busy week. It's hard to believe that July is here after only 2 weeks off from school.

Avery and went to Sunday School Sunday morning and then we stayed for me to keep the nursery.  When we got home, Ned was cooking BLTs and we had lunch.  After naps, we went to a little gender reveal party for Alison and David.  It was at her parents' house around the pool, and they had yummy food.  Alison's mom had fixed cupcakes with blue icing inside because it's a boy!  David's mom broke into the first one and announced the news.  Avery was so excited to swim.  She hadn't used her Puddle Jumper last summer, and I didn't think she was going to put it on.  She did though, and was a little fish, swimming all over the pool with Ned.  He had to lure her out with a cupcake.  I was so pleased she took to it so well and can't wait to take her again.  Sam hung out with me and even drifted right off once he got tired.  We had such a fun time visiting with everyone but had to leave for bedtimes.  Sam was so tired that he fell asleep after just 2 ounces.

As I suspected, Sam was up early Monday morning.  I fed him 2 ounces since he hadn't had a full bottle before, and he went back to sleep.  Once we got up for the day, I tried to get some floor cleaning done, and Avery painted.  She was in heaven.

I stayed in my pajamas most of the day since I was trying to clean.  Sam's afternoon naps were short so I didn't get much done while Avery napped.  We had Bow Tie Fiesta that I made Sunday for dinner.

On Tuesday morning, we stayed home until story time at the library.  I hadn't been before and didn't know what to expect with Avery or Sam.  There were more children there than normal, but it still went pretty well.  Avery really like the songs before and after the stories.  Three books and one e-book was a little much for her though.  Craft time started with coloring a picture, and since that was dragging we left and got hamburgers for lunch.  While naps were happening, I ordered Avery's birthday invitations.  We had ranch chicken tacos from the Crock-Pot for dinner.  Avery liked them because they were in "roll-ups" (tortillas).

Sam took a short morning nap Wednesday which did not help me get bathrooms cleaned.  It did allow us to play on the church playground before it got too hot.  It will be nice to have our own playground after Avery's birthday.

Ned got off at noon, and once he got home, I went and printed pictures.  I'm so behind, but I can't keep buying memory cards.  Hopefully after my editing class, I'll find some good online printing services.  After printing pictures, I went by our local bakery and picked up a few cupcakes to sample to see if they would be good for Avery's birthday.  Avery and I shared some when she woke up, and they were yummy.  We played in the playroom before dinner to give everyone a change of scenery.

I made pimento cheese for our new preacher once Avery went to bed.  I also called Baby Jogger since one of our front stroller wheels kept locking into place as we strolled.  They sent two new front wheels with no questions asked.  I love good customer service.  Verizon spent the majority of the morning working on our phones and finally managed to get it right.  Not such good customer service there.  Ned attempted putting Sam to bed for the first time in awhile, and it took some time.  The same thing happened for me the night before, so it's not just him.  I think we're hitting the 4-month sleep regression since he isn't going down awake very easily anymore.

We had Avery's appointment with the ENT on Thursday.  We dropped Sam of with my mom and then made a quick stop in Babies R Us.  We bought bed rails for Avery although she still says she wants to sleep in her crib.  I have no idea where she'll sleep on vacation.  Sam needed a breathable bumper, and I picked up the travel Sleep Sheep and a swaddle sleep sack for him also.  We were early for the ENT and they took us quickly.  Again, Avery was on the line between needing tubes and not.  He said that her ears clearing the fluid more quickly this year was a good sign, so we opted to wait, again.  If they start up again in the fall we'll definitely be doing them.  We ate lunch at Panera Bread when we were done then went to the mall.  It was quick trip for stretchies for Sam and white sandals for Avery, which we couldn't find.  Barnes and Noble was also missing most of the 4th of July and beach books I wanted for Avery, but you can't leave Barnes and Noble without new books.  Avery was thrilled to ride through the tunnel then promptly fells asleep.

She woke up in Franklin when we stopped to meet a lady who we were purchasing something from.  I'll blog more about that when I determine that we didn't throw $40 to the wind.  We picked up Sam and visited a bit then headed home for pizza.  Ned went to drill, and when he left, Avery was in her bed crying for the 3rd night in a row, and Sam was downstairs with me crying.  Sam was tired, but I have no idea what Avery's issue has been.

We stayed home Friday since it was so hot.  While Sam took a short morning nap, I cleaned the upstairs bathrooms while Avery did some work in the playroom.  Avery showed Sam her new Thomas book with magnets.

Sam went down for another nap before lunch, and since Avery was acting tired, we ate early then she took a nap a little early.  Sam took a long nap, woke up and ate a played, then went back down before Avery got up.  My mom came to visit and take Avery home, and she stayed while.  We loaded up all of Avery's treasures and they left.  I was so surprised that Sam took another 2 hour nap.  Usually his 3rd nap is 30 minutes even if it is early in the day.  Ned brought home Applebee's for dinner and we played with Sam.  Once he went to bed, Ned played with his new work laptop and I fell asleep watching Home Alone.

We went to bed around 11 p.m. and Ned said we were under a thunderstorm warning.  I couldn't understand that since the storms still seemed far away, but then the lightening and wind started.  Our lights went off twice before staying off the 3rd time.  I kind of went into panic mode.  Sam had been stirring each time his sound would go off.  First we put the sleep sheep on his crib rail, then we remembered Avery's sound machine had batteries from the hurricane.  Sam was swaddled in his fleece sleep sack, and I just knew he was going to overheat.  Facebook friends were giving power outage numbers, and I was sure the city would be without power for days and I had only 3 bottles before formula was out.  AND, my sweet Avery who is terribly afraid of boom-booms, wasn't home.  The line of storms was quick with terrible wind, lightening, and thunder, but no rain.  I am a weenie in the dark and wouldn't let Ned go to any of his fire calls.  We stayed awake until we knew the storms had gone past my parents' house, then I got on the sofa so I could hear Sam and Ned went to bed.  I lay awake from 1-2 a.m. then slept off an on until the power came on at 4 a.m.  Luckily, none of my irrational thoughts became reality.  A lot has changed since I planned for inclement weather by buying candy corn and Pepsi.

Ned got up Saturday morning and went fishing, and Sam and I got up about 7:15 a.m.  My parents' lights had only flickered a few times but Avery did wake up as her sound was changing.  She went back to sleep, though, and slept later in the morning.  Sam took a big morning nap and so did I!  Once Ned got home, I put Sam down for another nap and went to the grocery store.  He was up when I got home and I unpacked groceries.  He took yet another nap and I blogged while Ned was out preparing for a party.  Sam woke up early from his nap and was fussy, so I put him back down a few times trying to extend the nap.  I think the afternoon nap is going to take some crying to stretch it out.  I'll save our festivities tonight for another post.

Did you love bow tie fiesta? It's one of our favorites. I made the ranch tacos too and Carl was not exactly impressed but I thought they were delicious too. Cupcakes sound yummy! Henry is still not sleeping long consistently in the afternoon - usually about 1 hour or 1 hour and 15 minutes. My goal is that he sleeps until 3 so that he can to bed around 6:30. That does not always happen! Evie is such a good napper and I just know that she will stop napping right when Henry starts napping longer.
