Week in Review ~ 9/15

I'm late with this one, but school is WINNING.  We had an extremely busy week, and I don't like those.  I much prefer going home from school {on time} and staying home.

Sunday was promotion day at church.  Avery stays in her same class, but her teacher promotes to different levels.  Ned stayed home with Sam because he was napping.  We are doing the Nooma series in our class and I really like the DVDs.  Sam didn't nap for long that afternoon and Avery didn't nap at all, which was expected since I was trying to do school work.

Avery had her first Bible Zone Monday night, and she was an excited little girl.

She went right in her class without hesitation, and when she saw that no one else had loveys, she gave me Giraffi to take to the car.  Another check on the big girl chart and it breaks my heart and makes me thankful at the same time.  I ran a few quick errands then did some work in the car just in case she needed me.  Bible Zone is at our church, but she has a different teacher and her classroom is "up not down."  Avery was having a blast doing music in the sanctuary when I went in.  The teacher did report one teary moment but she perked up for singing.  Bible Zone lasts until 7:30 so we hurried home to bed.

I had a hair appointment on Tuesday, so my mom picked up the kids.  It was the first time she had picked them both up, but everyone did fine.  I picked them up from her and we headed home.

We had a staff meeting that ran late Wednesday, so I was in a panic because it was dance night.  Luckily that's Ned's day to get off early, so he was home.  We quickly fed Avery and Sam then Avery and I took off.  Parents did not get to watch this time so I worked on school work.  We did get called back for the last few minutes.  Avery has yet to pick up an actual skill but is enjoying herself thoroughly.  I even asked the teacher if she thought she was too young, but she said she was just where she needed to be for her age.  Dance is not cheap so it never hurts to make sure you're headed in the right direction.  At one point "Call Me Maybe" came on in the other room and Avery really needed to dance to that.  We left dance and picked up dinner for Ned and me.  Sam was in bed when I got home and it was time for Avery to go as well.

The adventures weren't over on Thursday.  I left school at 2:30 to pick up Avery and Sam for Sam's check-up.  He got a good report and the highlights were: increasing reflux meds due to weight once more then will see if we can wean off {I think he was good on the lower dose, which should mean he's getting better}, staying on Alimentum until we introduce some dairy via yogurt around 9 months, starting a second solids meal, and growing, growing, growing!  He weighs 17 pounds, 7 ounces and is 27 3/4 inches long.  His height is above the 80th percentile!  Unbelievable when Avery has been and is still so petite.  We were in there a long time but everyone did fine.  Avery entertained herself and the pediatrician.  Sam got the flu shot along with his immunizations, which put him at 3 shots and one oral.  They were out of the  Pentacel (DTap) vaccine.  I am nervous about pertussis but I opted to wait a month to see if they would get more instead of having 3 more shots for Sam.  I fell asleep on the couch that night and didn't wake up until almost midnight.  When I checked on the kids, I moved Sam's Duckie from his face and he woke up.  I had let him have it because he was upset at bedtime.  He was then up until almost 2 a.m.  I wasn't going to let him cry after shots, so I'd get him calm and almost asleep, then put him down.  He'd stay quiet for awhile then start crying again.  On my 3rd visit in, I opted to leave Duckie in the crib with him, and I never heard another peep.  Duckie is now a sleeping companion at night.

I was of course pooped Friday morning, and it was an interesting day at school.  Avery had been asking to go to the restaurant, so she chose the "sign pancake" to celebrate the end of the week.  I had the apple streusel french toast and it was almost as delicious as it was last fall when I was pregnant.

Avery and Sam both slept until almost 7 a.m. Saturday morning, which was a fantastic treat since I get up with them on Saturdays.  We took a few pictures to send to Yaya on her birthday since she was celebrating at Mt. Vernon.

Ned had to go feed the dogs at his parents', so he picked up breakfast.  I then had a rare day away at Short Pump.  Even rarer, I bought mostly for myself.  It was a great day for the open air mall and lunch outside.  After the mall I hit Target and Hobby Lobby to replace a broken frame then it was time to head home.  Ned cooked steaks for dinner and then we took a walk to the pond.

Our ducks have recruited a new friend and Avery was determined to catch it.

This week hasn't been any calmer, and we've got another busy, fun weekend ahead.  I thought our weekends were full through the end of the month, but we're actually full until mid-October.  Hopefully our weekdays will at least slow down and I'll soon be victorious over school.

Sam is getting soooo big! I hope everything with his reflux gets better. I am thinking of taking Henry back to the Gastro. because he is having some belly issues again. Poor little thing! Dance is not cheap and we are not seeing any real skills either. They swept the floor last week pretending to be Cinderella. Now, that's cute but we can do that at home for free! She loves the tumbling part of class. We will see how this goes! Got Henry's first shipment of clothes from Carter's and I love them. I had a hard time finding much for Evie but they have some cute basic boy clothes which you know are hard to find. Thanks for reminding me about them. Carl is loving the $10 Osh Kosh Overalls. Hope school slows down soon. Henry has been sleeping with a lovey for a long time if that makes you feel any better and I am a nut job on crib rules. HA! I am also a sleep fanatic so I do what it takes so that everyone gets there alloted sleep.

I love readng about Avery in dance. We aren't allowed to watch during Paisley's class but I completely understand why. However it's killing me to see what she's doing. She is loving every minute of it to hear her talk! And she comes out with a sticker every week so that means she's at least listening! Paisley also is doing Children's Choir at church every other Wednesday night and she is loving that again as well (this is her 2nd year). Sam is growing so fast and oh so cute! Maybe we'll see you guys this weekend at the Peanut Fest. We are supposed to be riding in the parade. My Dad will be driving his tractor and pulling the grandkids behind in a trailor. I really would like for Paisley to be able to see the parade but my Dad doesn't quite get that part of it so we will just make him happy. I haven't been to the Peanut Fest since I was a kid so I'm excited to see if it's still as great as it use to be. My grandparents were from Emporia so we always went with them every year.

Sam has surpassed Davis in all areas! He really is growing, growing, growing. I can only imagine how exhausted you were on Friday after Sam's night owl spell. Glad you got some shopping in for yourself.
