Dancing Queen

Today was finally the day for Avery to "take a dance!"

We rushed home, took a bath, ate some spaghetti, and hopped into our ballerina attire.  Her excitement allowed me to fix a ponytail without much complaining, and then we were ready to go!

Not going to lie, Mommy had some butterflies.  Avery's never done any type of "organized" activity, so while she's a very good girl, I didn't know what to expect.

Things were a little busy when we got there, and I was surprised that Avery would sit with her group while I paid.  We were off to a good start at least!  Avery's teacher warmed up her class and an older class, and that's when I realized that maybe we should have practiced.  I don't know what, but we should have practiced something.  While other girls put their feet together and flapped their legs like a butterfly, Avery flapped her arms.  And who needs to stay in that position to be a turtle and touch your nose to the floor?  Avery can either touch her nose with her finger or stretch out on her belly and put her nose on the floor.  We were definitely in need of some one-on-one assistance.

The teacher then moved the class to their actual room, and Avery took right off with her other pink buddies.  That's when I knew my Avery has grown up, as she never turned to see if I was behind her.  It was a few minutes before the teacher let the parents in, and Avery never came out to see where I was.

The rest of the class went well, I guess.  Avery would say she had a fantastic time, but she did not blow anyone away with her skills.  Her moves maybe, but not her skills.  Telling Avery to make frog feet is an invitation to hop like a frog.  Move her hands like the wind blowing the trees?  Avery is a hurricane.  And let's not forget the kisses we had to give Mommy.  There were at least some other newbies so I didn't look like I had brought a total hooligan.  I do think my baby is the baby, so we'll see how it all pans out.  I do know enough about my child, and children in general, that they're going to need lots of positioning and help, so I'm hoping for more of that next week when parents aren't in the room.

We'll be practicing a few things this week, namely sitting/standing on her spot...not in the general area but ON the spot.  I know she'll learn so much this year, but until then we're rocking it Phoebe-style.

Avery looks just beautiful! It is so enlightening to see our kids reaction to organized activities. Evie starts dance next week and I am sure it will be an experience.
