Week in Review ~ 8/25

This post was NOT supposed to be late as some of the others have been.  But...you know life.  Saturday night we came home and I was on the sofa asleep by 9 p.m.  Sunday night I was set to go, but we had a storm which kind of derailed my computer plans.  Plus our lights blinked off, causing both sound machines to turn off and sending Ned and I scrambling.  Ned went to Sam who never stirred.  I went to Avery, and my hand was .2 seconds from beating the next clap of thunder.  That bought me some time in Avery's room.  Anyway, now it's Tuesday and here we are.

Ned and Avery were planning to go to church Sunday morning, but it was raining terribly and we had a tornado warning to the south of us.  I told him I thought they better stay home.  I can't remember how long it rained or what else we did.  I think that's the day I made s'mores bars, which were fantastic.

Monday was back to work, and we were greeted by more rain.  We were out the door and doing good, until I had another "you have 2 children" moment.  For 3 years, I've gotten Avery out at Jennifer's and carried her in if she wanted, which lately was about half the time.  Now, I get Avery out and put on her "pack pack" and she waits for me to get Sam out.  There was something about seeing her standing with her hood on and her little legs poking out of her rain coat that broke my heart.  She was fine to walk, though.  We had opening convocation at the high school, and of course the day seemed kind of long.  Upon getting back to Jennifer's, I heard good reports for Avery and Sam, but Sam had not napped the best and was fussy until a bathroom break, and Avery had cried for me.  Then in the car, I wanted Avery to be quiet so Sam could nap and my patience was not at it's finest.  I imagined all of their days and our afternoons like that, and I just wanted to cry again.

Luckily, my glass empty predictions did not come true.   Avery was thrilled to get up and go to Jen-Jen's the rest of the mornings and cried Tuesday when it was time to go home.  Sam had a fantastic week, napping beautifully (in pack-n-play, out of swaddle!) in Jennifer's room with her air machine running.  She says he smiles, laughs, and talks all day long.  She also reports he's ready to join everyone at the table.

Tuesday through Thursday we had county-wide in-services at the high school, mainly focusing on our new teacher evaluation.  The new evaluation combined with a new superintendent makes for a year of big change.  We are all a little nervous about how things will go, and I'm just praying to be able to (mostly) do school at school and home at home.

Our week didn't consist of much other than work and getting into our new routine.  Ned played golf in Richmond Wednesday and picked up our new elliptical on the way home.  According to him, it's another one of his Craig's List deals, so we'll see how long it lasts and how much it gets used.  It is a very nice machine for a very good price, but sometimes that makes me wonder.  We both need exercise, but my time after school and in the evenings is largely spent at home.  My goal is to hop on the elliptical a few nights a week after the kids go to bed and catch The Young and the Restless on The Soap Net.  We'll see.  It will be someone else's Craig's List deal if it isn't used.

Friday we were able to work at school, so it was good to get some things done there.  We went to the Mexican restaurant for dinner to celebrate a successful first week back.

Avery and I had a big day planned Saturday but woke up to torrential downpours.  By the time we needed to leave for her hair cut, the rain had slowed down, but we had roads closed and it took us longer to get out of town.  We caught up with the rain as we drove, and it was so bad.  At one point I pulled off in a parking lot, but after looking at my phone I realized that waiting it out would be waiting a long time.  We crept ahead but missed her appointment.  Luckily, our girl was able to do it later, so we headed to our Cat's Clips bow party first.  Avery went right to the playroom to play while I browsed bows and Kelly's Kids.  We left there and had her 3-snip hair cut then went to get a dance bag to carry her shoes in.  Pizza Hut Buffet was supposed to finish off our morning, but there's no buffet on Saturday, so we settled on Dairy Queen.  Sam was starting a good afternoon nap when we got home, but Avery saw no need to rest or be quiet.  Once everyone was up we went to dinner at my parents' house.  Avery fell asleep in the car, so perhaps a rest would have been useful.  Sam did not get his 3rd nap and was kind of fussy, which is abnormal for him, but we had a good meal and a good time visiting.

Look at that sweet Sam. He is getting so big. I have been thinking about you this week. Those first few weeks are just utterly exhausting. I get sad sometimes too when Evie wants me but Henry needs me. Have you read Babyproofing your marriage? I highly reccomend it! Well-written and puts into words lots of my thoughts.
