We had another good week, but I was bad about taking pictures, so all photographs courtesy of Instagram.
Ned finished his golf tournament Sunday morning. Each time he's played in a tournament this summer, I've had nursery duty at church. I really prefer to leave Sam at home for right now, especially since I had to wake him to go. We made it there and made it through, even though Sam was kind of fussy at the end.
Sammy the dog got a much needed hair cut Monday morning. I tolerate him so much better when he looks presentable.
We stayed home until it was time for the big event...dance registration! We turned in our forms and got all the essentials, mainly in lovely shades of pink. Avery goes a little Rain Man sometimes about how shoes fit on her feet. She of course did not like the ballet shoes or tap shoes on her feet as she was trying them on...like, wouldn't even stand up straight. I repeatedly told her she would not be dancing, showed her no one was dancing, but she didn't want to leave, and a series of "No, no, no" followed me out the door. The tears started rolling as I pulled her through the rain to the car. Poor thing just wanted to "take a dance."
We tried on the ensemble after dinner, and both sets of shoes were much more acceptable with the pink tights on. I still may let Ned be in charge of shoes the first night. She got to "take a dance" in our room and then had another meltdown when it was time to take it all off. I have no idea how dance will go, but I foresee the first few classes providing good blogging material.
Tuesday was another big day. Sam turned 5 months old and celebrated by going to Jen-Jen's the first time. I did well dropping him off but will not do well the first day I leave them both to go back to work. I never do. Sam seemed to be a natural at Jen-Jen's just like his big sister. Jennifer said he laughed and talked and acted like he had been there forever. His naps were shorter but I know that will work out in no time. Avery went to work with Ned while I dropped off Sam, then she and I went home for a little while before meeting Ned at The Palm Tree. Avery now has another restaurant that she can spot from a mile away. I had to wake Avery from her nap to go to the dentist. I had no idea how that would go either, but she took the hygienist hand and probably would have left me in the waiting room.
She got a good report, although I'm not sure what was done other than counting her teeth and a quick inspection. Lolli was home with Sam when we got there so we visited for awhile.
My mom and I went shopping Wednesday afternoon once Ned got off at noon. We both needed to visit the teacher's store, but I spent more time in Babies R Us, Target, and Old Navy. We both went to Barnes and Noble where I continued to add to my book wish list for Avery and Sam. I bought Bloom for myself. Ned and I rotted our brains with Honey Boo Boo that night...a classic train wreck that you can't turn your eyes from.
We went to Conway Photo Shop for Avery's 3-year portraits Thursday morning. She had the best time and followed directions so well. My mom met me there to help out, but all the laughing and carrying on kept Sam well-entertained. All of that excitement led to nap time for both, so I was able to do quite a bit of reading.
We stayed home Friday and enjoyed the cool and breezy morning outside.
We had a good meal at Applebee's that night then came home and got everyone to bed. Sam is getting himself to sleep each night now, usually with little to no fussing. We evidently make babies that get more upset by our "help" to get to sleep and need to just do it on their own. Otherwise, I'd rock them until they were 10.
Ned let me sleep in Saturday but managed to set our house alarm off very early that morning. I got up and went to the grocery store, and once I got home, Ned got ready to leave for Kiawah for the PGA Championship. Sam's second tooth broke through, and he wasn't feeling the best. We're transitioning to naps in his crib and he's doing pretty good, but I let him nap in his rocker. I think Avery must have needed a rocker, because she was so loud during nap time. I need to do a whole post on that because her birthday totally derailed nap time and something needs to get it back on track. We ate dinner then tried to straighten up the playroom. Sam was so fussy, and I took his temperature and realized he had his first fever.
I got some medicine in him and put him to bed then got Avery to bed. I was pretty tired, so I did all I needed to around the house, watched The Wedding Planner, and went to bed a little after 10 p.m. I tend to go the Field of Dreams route when I'm home alone (and this was my first time in this house).
I'm sure that doesn't tip off anyone, but I prefer to be well-illuminated.
This week is my last week at home with my babies. I've worked about 4 weeks in the last 8.5 months so I'm not quite sure I'm going to know what to do.
