Avery had a great check-up Monday morning. She weighed in at 23.5 pounds and was 32.5 inches long. Both of those put her between the 10th-20th percentile. I think her head was somewhere around the 75 percentile...lots of brains! She's just a tiny thing even though she eats and eats. Clothes shopping will be a bit of a challenge with these measurements, though.
I think Dr. Applewhite and I spent just as much time talking houses, babies, and other fun things as we did discussing Avery. Avery is in good health and had clear ears! She does have a bit of a heart murmur that was detected a few visits ago. Dr. Applewhite said that if someone didn't know to listen for it, it probably wouldn't be heard. It isn't a concern, and I think I had one as a toddler also.
Milestones are good and we didn't really spend a whole lot of time discussing them, I guess because she's doing what she needs to. We did spend some time talking about her speech. At 2, the general "rule" is that a child should have 50 words, and half of those words should be understandable by a stranger. We've got well over 50, but I don't think half would be understandable. I think some of the words were learned while her ears had fluid, and now it's become the words she uses. She learns new words each day, and many of the letters, blends, etc. she has trouble with are common in children, so no concerns at this time. As I was busy telling Dr. Applewhite that Avery's receptive language was fabulous, Avery was soaking in everything Dr. Applewhite was saying and doing, and then copying it. She certainly agreed that Avery doesn't miss a trick!
We briefly discussed potty training, and Avery seems to be on track with that as well. She's showing interest and that's normal for a girl her age. She also said it was perfectly normal for her to go for Jennifer and not for us. Isn't that nice! We're going to let Avery decide when she's ready to reduce the chance of dragging this out forever and ever or going through a ton of accidents. We're not pushing the potty right now.
I think we're going to start some vitamins and also switch to fiber gummies instead of her prescription. I did mean to talk about moving to a big bed and taking the pacifier, but I forgot. When I got home I figured it was ok because we're going to do it when we're all ready.
No shots yesterday but she did need to have her finger pricked. We had opted not to have bloodwork drawn before, so it was best we do a quick check. It didn't go well. Not only did it hurt, I think it made her mad too, and it took a LONG time for her to calm down. Luckily I already had her dressed, but I decided we could not leave that room until she had pulled it together a bit. I kept reminding her that we were going to stop for a grilled cheese, so that finally quieted her down. We managed to get out of the office and even speak to a few friends with no yelling, but she saw that boo boo as I was getting her into her carseat and started up again. Lunch dried those tears though. I would rather have blood drawn than have my finger pricked, so I definitely sympathize with her.
We are so thankful for a healthy, happy little girl. Now if we could just stay out of the office until our next scheduled appointment in January.
Here are a few more pictures from her birthday weekend. Here she is in her birthday clothes with birthday morning hair.
Already a mama. Feeding the baby and watching TV. Bitty Baby is loving her new crib from Lolli and Poppa.
The kitchen is a big hit.

So glad Avery's doctor's appt went well:-) Not sure what time you were in on Monday but we were there when they opened...Paisley came down with a rash Friday night on her tummy, bottom half of legs and lil butt. Dr was not concerned since they weren't puttine P in any discomfort and she said they were harmless and not contagious although she couldn't pinpoint what they were or where they came from. Thankfully they are fading now:-) P weighed in at 25.5 lbs at her 2 year checkup and have jumped from the 50th percentile to the 90th percentile (I was shocked). And I was also shocked that the finger prick P got didn't bother her a bit...NO tears! We also started the fiber gummies this week. However, I think I am going to have to buy the Miralax as well b/c she has had issues this week:-( I too am going to do a multivitamin as well since her eating habits are not great. She's still so picky! And our potty training is going great! Avery will do it when she is ready...I didn't push it with P really at all and I think that's part of the reason she caught on so quickly...we would talk about it when I went and then of course she wanted to do it as well. It will come! I am also hoping to move P to a double bed soon hopefully...not sure about how we will transition but hopefully it won't be too bad. She's NOT liking the toddler bed too much at all. Have a great weekend, we are heading out in the morning for vacation! Oh...I LOVE Avery's "2" outfit! Super cute! And I have noticed that P is being more of a mommy to her bitty baby and all her other babies too...I love to hear her talk to them...so sweet! These girls are truely amazing!
