Feel the Beach Breeze

We are having some of the best beach weather you could ask for.  After two hot days, and taking Wednesday off from the beach, we were ready to get back Thursday morning.  Avery, as usual, was ready to roll by 6:30 a.m.  I think the light streams in her bright window, and she remembers she's at the beach with Lolli and Poppa.  Who wants to waste time in bed?  With highs only in the low 80s and a pretty strong wind, it was almost a little cool on the beach.  Avery enjoyed all her normal beach things: snacks, birds, planes pulling signs, helicopters, and the "pool."  The water was very choppy, but that doesn't matter to Avery, who only gets to go in to her knees.  She really does love the beach and would stay all day if Mama wasn't such a stickler for nap time.

Avery took a great nap while Lolli and Poppa sat with her.  Ned and I got to do some reading and relaxing on the beach.  We went in to get ready and went to dinner at Kelly's.  This is where we had the tree frog on our table last year and also where Avery wasn't pleased with the slow service.  Again this year, Avery was eager to get out of her chair or either have her hot dog delivered.  She wasn't causing a scene, but she wasn't loving it either.  We made it through our meal with no yelling and no frogs, and the waiter brought Avery a balloon.  About 22 seconds into the balloon experience, the balloon slipped off the string and landed precisely on a can light.  That drew the attention of those around us, but we knew that that hot light would quickly pop the balloon.  Ned and Giraffi saved the day when Ned swatted the balloon with Giraffi.  Our waiter managed to rescue and retie it, and all was right with the world.  Avery got several compliments on her behavior as we left.  At this age, I still wonder if it's luck, but it's always nice to hear that we haven't ruined anyone's dining experience.

Friday was the same great weather with less wind.  Ned continued working on the hole he started Thursday for Avery, and she was perfectly happy with that hole, her toys, and a bucket of water.  She ran and ran near the water playing with Ned, and then we took a little walk.  Those little legs are in constant, quick motion on the beach.  She was ready for a snack after all that exercise, and has decided that she likes to have her snacks in my lap wrapped up in her towel.  I would have never imagined her being as happy as she is on the beach.  The only time she fusses is when she leaves the water or Ned won't swing her.

Ned stayed with her while she napped, and I went back to the beach.  I am braving my Kindle on the beach because I'm loving Plain Truth.  Ned and Avery came back to the beach once she woke up for more running and more time in the hole.  We all went in and cleaned up, then Lolli and Poppa kept Avery so that Ned and I could have a date night.  We ate at Sugar Creek and enjoyed our dinner with views of the sound.  The weather was so great that we were a little disappointed to be called to our table so quickly.  We ordered smaller dinners after all the eating we've done but did share some fried green tomatoes.  We both agreed that they were not as good as the ones we had in Charleston, so a trip back there is definitely needed.  We appreciated our time away and are thankful that we enjoy doing things as just husband and wife.  Avery was in bed when we got home, but I've already peeked in on her once.  I'm may try to finish my book while Ned and Poppa are waiting for Swamp Loggers

One more day of fun in the sun for us!
