Week in Review ~ 7/7

We started our Sunday morning off around 4 a.m. with storms that made the power blink. The kids' sound machines turn off when this happens, and Avery woke up screaming. Poor thing was shaking, so when I went out to tell Ned to get me a flashlight in case the lights went out again, he suggested putting Avery in our bed.  We'd never done that before, and what an experience.  A gnat could not have found space to fly between Avery and I, and no one got much sleep.  I suppose that is payback for the times I got in my parents' bed when it stormed and slept with my legs across them.  We still got up and went to brunch at Mimi's with all the family that was in town for Ned's granddad's surprise party.  We stayed until Sam needed a nap, then we all managed to take naps that afternoon.

Monday is floor day which means I usually stay in my pajamas.  We didn't really do much.  Sam had been up early and then took short naps during the day.  Ned had a meeting after dinner, and it took me forever to get Sam to sleep.  That trend had been off and on for awhile, and I literally bounced him around until I was sweating.  Once I finally got him down, I watched The Bachelorette and tried to address some of Avery's birthday invitations.  I was so tired that I kept making mistakes, so I stopped.

While I cooked dinner Monday night, Avery made sure Sam was not under-stimulated.  You know what they say about an idle mind.

A man came bright and early Tuesday morning to fix my car window.  After Sam took his nap, we went to story time at the library.  I don't think Avery heard a word of the stories, but she likes the songs and crafts.  In her defense, there is a lot going on.  Apparently when you get Wendy's cheeseburgers after the library once, you must do it each time.  Since that craving did not go away with Sam's birth, it's not a tough sell.

After dinner, Sheri came to see what to do to take care of Felix while we're at the beach.  After she left, I ran out to the grocery store quickly, and everyone was in the playroom when I got home.  Ned gave Avery a bath and put her to bed, and Sam talked and talked to me.  Avery continued to have a hard time going to bed after the storm incident, and Sam also took a long time to get to bed as well.  I finished Avery's invitations before going to bed.

We had a great 4th of July on Wednesday.

Our Thursday morning got off to an early start as well.  I woke up thinking I heard the cat chewing cords behind our bed.  I woke Ned up, and there was a loud crack in our bedroom wall.  Ned checked out the house and checked outside.  I'm a big wuss, and when I can tell that Ned thinks something is up, I'm 10 times worse.  About an hour and a half later we were still awake and heard it in the ceiling.  By this point I wanted Ned to get the fire chief to bring a heat camera and check things out, but Ned assured me we were fine.  I was a nervous wreck and don't think I slept an hour between 2:30 and 7 a.m.  I had heard the noise in our room before and Ned didn't believe me, but things are different at night.

Avery, Sam, and I left the house early to drop Avery off at Jennifer's while Sam had his 4 month check.  Ned did go get a camera and check things out, and all seemed fine.  He also talked with our contractor, electrician, and even the building inspector, and while no one could explain it, no one seemed to think it's a problem.  Meanwhile, Sam got a good report then spent some time with Lolli so I could get a few things done.  I picked everyone up that afternoon before it stormed, and we headed home.  Sam was exhausted after his day and had a meltdown at 6:30.  He was in bed a little after 7 without a peep.  Ned had drill, and I was still pretty uneasy about the house.  I was glad when he returned home and glad we got a good night's sleep.

We stayed home Friday and had fun with pillows and nasal aspirators.

I started getting ready for the beach Sam took an almost 3 hour morning nap, which was a nice reward for the struggle it's been to get him to nap.  I'm sure the bouncing is good for my legs, but I don't care to sweat at nap time, so I had to end that and just let him cry some while I held him.  I'm praying this is just a sleep regression because naps had been a breeze and bedtime was going fairly well putting him down awake.  This is one of the times I wish I had blogged more in Avery's early months, because I know we went through this with her, but I can't remember when.  We had pizza for dinner, I put Avery to bed, and Ned had Sam in bed before 8.

Saturday was a busy day.  Sam was 4 months old!  Avery requested cheese "bixsixs" for breakfast, so we enjoyed them together.  Ned went to work for a bit then got a hair cut.  When he got home, I ran errands and went to Walmart.  I continued packing during nap time, having to stop to get Sam back to sleep.  When Avery woke up, Ned took her to Lowe's to pick up her swing set.  They brought home Chik-Fil-A for dinner, then Ned's parents stopped by for a minute.  Thankfully, everyone went to bed easily since we had plenty to do.
