Week in Review ~ 6/18

This week certainly made me work to get to summer vacation.  We didn't go to church Sunday since Avery was still coughing.  I had lots to catch up on since I hadn't been home for much of the day Saturday.  Grocery shopping and piles of laundry kept me busy, while Ned helped Lucas put insulation into the ceiling of his new man cave.

Either Ned or I had something to do each night of the week.  I hate weeks like that.  I prefer to be home most of the time and keeping up with our routines.  Monday we traveled to Waverly for our family pictures.  Avery was kind of fussy in the car, but she was ready to "eat, eat."  She did great for the hour we took pictures, and then we put her in her pajamas before leaving for home.  Although we left at bedtime, Avery was awake for most of the hour ride home.  I'm doing better at being calm when the schedule changes, and she went right to bed when we got home.

Our busy nights continued with Ned having a meeting Tuesday night, Honor's Banquet for me Wednesday night, and drill for Ned Thursday night.  We were also staying up late each night, and I was struggling.  Our students got out of school at 1 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and the teachers had time to work.  On Thursday the entire staff waved the buses off for the last time of the school year.

We had a work day on Friday as well.  I had all of my paperwork done and spent the morning packing up my classroom.  I met with my principal and found out that I will be back in 2nd grade next year.  I think I would have been ok to stay in 3rd, but I am relieved to be out of a tested grade.  I don't know yet who I'll be working with, which is a bit scary.  We had lunch as a staff and shared our most memorable moments of the year.  Our third grade moment was my student in the electric wheelchair getting stuck in the sand on the playground.  This happened at the beginning of the year while I was still reeling from being put in third grade.  It was funny once we got him unstuck and was really funny Friday.

We were able to leave school around 2 p.m. and I headed home.  Lolli picked Avery up since she was staying with them for the weekend.  This weekend was the member-guest golf tournament, so she stayed all weekend since we had something both nights.  Ned and I signed a zillion papers and closed on our construction loan.  We then decided to skip the Friday night dinner for the tournament and instead went to Brittany and Brandon's house at the lake and went out to eat.  We had a great time talking and laughing, but I was so tired.  A quick nap after we closed had not even helped.  I was happy to get home and get on the couch.

Ned had an early tee time Saturday morning, and I slept in.  I hadn't been up long when the Jehovah's Witnesses came with their hitting children.  I did nothing productive with my time other than enjoy it.  Ned came home and we both fell asleep before getting ready for the Saturday night dinner.  Ned's friend Owen played golf with him, and we all went together.  The crowd was not the best, so we left and went to Lucas and Kristin's.  We stayed out too late even though Ned had another early tee time due to a tough day of golf.

My summer vacation is getting off to a rocky start with the installation of a new heating/air unit on Monday morning.  I know it will benefit us greatly but I really had to take a few minutes to pout.  My main concern had initially been Avery's nap, but Ned is not sure if we'll have air downstairs or at all during these few days.  This too shall pass and we are always welcome at Lolli and Poppa's.

The best news (other than no school) is that they are going to start digging at our lot.  The house is marked off, the digger is parked and ready, and the contractor's sign is at the road.  It's looking a little smaller than we thought, but each time we say that we laugh and remember we can't afford anything else.  I have no idea what to expect from this process, but I'm excited to see it beginning.

I am way more relaxed than I used to be about schedules too. My SIL told me that anything can be reversed as long as you don't do it 3 times in a row! OOPS, tonight was Evie's third night going to bed after 8. I am sure she will be fine! YEAH for summer. I know you are so excited. Exciting news about teaching 2nd too - it is the best grade! I stressed about being in a testing grade too but it worked out.
