Week in Review ~ 6/11

We had a pretty busy week, although I can't remember much that went on. We got up Sunday morning and went to church. Avery cried when we left but stayed in her class the whole time. We are in the middle of a funny mood/I need my mama more than ever/approaching two phase, and she needs me an awful lot more than usual. We went to Mimi's for dinner, and Avery got to visit with Dixie.

Someone at the babysitter's had croup the previous week, and others started fading fast on Monday. Avery woke up hoarse with congestion Tuesday, and when the phone in my classroom rang with an outside line that afternoon, I knew it was Jennifer. Avery was running a little fever and coughing and was about to fall asleep at the lunch table. Lolli picked her up after her nap, then I took her straight to the doctor because her cough was sounding like a bark. We saw a different doctor since ours is on maternity leave, and he quickly determined it wasn't croup. She was the third to be seen by him on Tuesday from Jennifer's and the fifth since the Thursday before. Whatever germ it was, it was a big one.

Lolli kept Avery Wednesday and Friday, and Ned stayed home with her Thursday.  She never ran anymore fever, but she was slow in the mornings, would perk up after nap, then fade again by dinner.  Oddly enough, she never coughed much at night.

Since she had a better day Friday, we thought we would go out to eat.  Halfway into our ride, we realized it was probably a bad decision.  I really blamed hunger, but she wasn't interested in much to eat.  Some saltines and cocktail sauce were the biggest hits.  I ended up eating my crab cakes with Avery on my lap.  She did decide then that her sweet potato fries would be good in the cocktail sauce as well.  Ned and I both admitted that while driving, we each considered mentioning going through the Chik-Fil-A drive-thru, but neither of us said anything.  It actually wasn't a bad meal, but I hated that Avery still wasn't feeling well.

We all got up about 7:30 a.m. Saturday.  Ned and Avery went to Cracker Barrel with Mimi and Vincent, while I got to go to school for our bazaar.  I served a lot of hot dogs in 4 hours, but it definitely beat running a game outside like some teachers had to do.  Ned went fishing when I got home, and Avery I went in search of some shoes for me.  Avery again was not pleased to be in the car, but she didn't look sick like she did on Friday night.  Luckily, the shoe process went quickly because Avery needed to "eat, eat!"  We went to Chik-Fil-A, but Avery was not quite as excited as I was.  I think she's needing more snacks so that she's not totally starving at mealtime.  When that happens, no food is acceptable.  She did eat some chicken, some of her fruit, some of my fries, and plenty of ranch dressing.  She also had her first lemonade.  It's so funny watching her drink new things when she only gets water with us and watery juice at Jennifer's.  The lemonade turned out to be a hit though!  She was still a little fussy in the car on the way home, but was happy as could be once we got there.  She seems to have a lot of frustrations that she needs to share without being able to communicate them all.  I'm hoping the unusual whining is a result of her being sick this week, but I've been rereading The Happiest Toddler on the Block just in case.  She went to bed and I enjoyed some time to myself before Ned got home.  We both fell asleep watching TV and didn't go to bed until after 1 a.m.

We have a lot going on this week in addition to it being the last week of school.  Two full days and two half-days with the kids, and a workday Friday that will hopefully be done by lunch are all that stand between me and summer vacation!

CFA lemondade is the best! Avery is a smart girl. Evie likes the pink Simple Raspberry Lemondade too. Hope this week goes by fast for you. Blogger has not been letting me comment on your posts lately. Hope this goes through.
