Week in Review ~ 10/23

Well, it's been another one of those weeks. I'm not a whiner, I'm just keeping it real. Just one of those weeks full of life.

Monday night I was playing with Avery, went to spin the little cylinder with garden pictures on her Learning Home, and pulled back a wet hand. My father-in-law had been working in our basement family room earlier, and I immediately blamed him but couldn't figure out why he would have been hovering over Avery's house. After further inspection, which yes, involved smelling, it was determined that it was pee. Perhaps Sammy thought a plastic garden was just as good as any. Now that house is the best money we have spent on a toy yet so the pee problem had to be remedied. I won't go through all the steps Ned took, but it started with the house upside down over my kitchen sink and ended with a dry, sweet-smelling garden.

Fast forward to Wednesday, and I get tired of the knife-like feeling in my throat. I actually went in to the doctor hoping for strep because 1) there is medicine for that and 2) I would have a real, documented excuse to keep myself home instead of pushing it through each school day. Strep test came back negative though, and according to the doctor, my throat only looked a little red. I still somehow left with a prescription but not a diagnosis. While I was at the doctor, Avery was having an adventure of her own. Avery and another little girl were playing on the floor, and another toddler ran by, tripped, and tried to catch herself on Avery. Avery's eye hit the plastic corner of the barn she was playing with, resulting in a good 1 inch gash and lots of tears. Our babysitter and the child's mother were so upset, and the mom waited awhile to see if I would arrive. They checked out her eye and cleaned her up just as Ned got there to pick her up. Avery is a mover and a climber and accidents are going to happen. I just wish she would give her head a break for awhile.

By Thursday, and with 2 doses of antibiotics in me, I was my sickest yet. I froze all day at school and even kept my fleece on over a long sleeve sweater outside in the 70 degree temperatures. By dinner I was running fever and stayed wrapped up in a blanket while I tried to entertain Avery before bed.

I've been in the house since Thursday (today is Sunday). Fevers over 102 degrees, terrible sore throat, aches, chills, sweats, I've had it all. It's most likely what plagued Avery and seems to be attacking people everywhere around here. I haven't been this sick in LONG time. The high fever broke Friday night, so I wasn't achy yesterday but still ran a little fever. I finally was able to sleep last night also. Ned has been a huge help with Avery, and my mom kept her all day yesterday so I could rest. I've been fever-free today but the sore throat remains. I need to stay home tomorrow but I've got to go back to school since my work doesn't wait patiently on my desk for me to return.

Avery made it a whole week at the babysitter's and now has a horrible cough and runny nose. I'm holding my breath, hoping it's the leftover congestion. We at least have her 15 month check tomorrow and can see what the verdict is. Poor baby coughed so much last night, and I know she's not getting her rest.

This too shall pass! Our goal is to all be healthy and feeling good by next weekend so that Avery can trick-or-treat not once, but twice! Here's hoping October ends much better than it started...and continued...

See why catastrophes aren't a surprise?

I hope you are feeling much better today and that your week has gotten off to a good start! Hope y'all have gotten all the germs there is to get so there will be NO more! I actually got the flu mist this year b/c my Mom and StepDad have had something like the flu already so I figured it was the smart thing to do. And of course Paisley had her flu shot at her 15 month appt last week. Too funny about Avery climbing on those diapers...Miss Paisley pulls whatever she can up to climb wherever she might want to get! They are sooo smart! And then I always get that grin that says "look at me...I know I'm not supposed to be doing this"! It's all I can do not to laugh at Paisley..I have to turn and get myself together every time! Hope Avery's appt will go well!
