Dear Sam,
Happy 16 month birthday! This month has been so much fun. We have lots of good opportunities for pictures this week so I promise to add some this month.
We have no new size measurements since your 15 month check-up. I'm sure you're continuing to grow, and people are starting to notice that you're nearly as big as Avery. Clothing must be 18 months now, and I'm not sure your knit one-piece items will make it through the summer. You wear a 5-5.5 size shoe and continue to wear a size 4 diaper.
You've added a few new foods this month including Honey Nut Cheerios (almonds) Nutella (hazelnuts) and peanut butter. You had your first, whole peanut butter and jelly today and loved it. You seem to be willing to try and eat more things, and that may be due to the fact that you are mainly self-feeding. You can do yogurt, applesauce, etc. pretty well with a spoon, and any other items that can't be scooped you get with your fingers. You ate a plate full of macaroni and cheese tonight at Applebee's with just your fingers. You eat grilled cheese and Pop Tarts without having them cut into tiny pieces. There are still things that you won't try at all, but eggs and strawberries continue to be things you try but do not like. Milk and water are still your only beverages.
I thought we'd be taking away your morning nap this month, but once we started summer vacation you seemed to need it. The last week or so your naps have been off, so we're getting rid of the morning nap when we come home from the beach. I'm having to wake you from your morning nap every day, and then you either take forever to fall asleep in the afternoon or you don't sleep at all.
The biggest change this month is that you are just about a full time walker. You are getting faster and steadier on your feet, and you seem to enjoy being able to carry things around easier. You still like to be on the move, and unfortunately for me you are quieter as a walker. You are pretty good about staying where we are, but you definitely take advantage of our gateless house.
You continue to enjoy things like the play kitchen, Little People Zoo, balls, and trucks. If we could get outside without the mosquitoes carrying us away, I know you'd be enjoying that too. This month you have really taken an interest in books, and we read the same few over and over each day. Your favorites are Tons of Trucks, the slide and find Brown Bear, Brown Bear, and Where is Baby's Belly Button. At night we rotate through Goodnight Moon and a few others, and you don't understand why we don't read them before nap time.
To your "spoken" repertoire you have added nana (banana) nigh-night, no, choo choo, yeah (to answer questions), and up please and probably a few more that we aren't understanding yet. You like to talk and sing and continue to sing "e-i-e-i-o." You mimic all the sounds we make when we read Brown Bear, Brown Bear. We are working hard to keep that pi-pi out of your mouth, but it is tough as you love it so much.
I always wonder how each month could be more fun than the next, but each month bring more fun and joy than I could imagine. You are a delight to Daddy, Avery, and me, and we love you so good!
Love,
Mommy and Daddy
