Week in Review 10/6

I was so excited to have a relatively easy-appearing week, but what a week it turned out to be.

We decided to stay home from church Sunday since we were recovering from our Thomas trip.  Even Avery asked to stay home.  She went to the store with me, then after nap time (that did not occur for the very tired Avery) we went to get pumpkins and mums.  Last year there were many more animals to see, but we still had a fun time.  I had planned to do a whole post on this, but the week kind of got crazy, so excuse all the pictures.

Once we got home we set out all our purchases and had enchiladas that I had prepared after lunch.

Sam woke up with a little rattle in his chest Monday, but he seemed ok so I didn't think anything of it.  When I checked in with Jennifer, she said he had eaten one bottle slowly and was coughing some but seemed to feel fine.  I still had Ned call the pediatrician so she could give us her opinion.  Jennifer called school before I even talked to the doctor saying that he had gotten up from a short nap with a fever.  When I picked them up he looked and sounded awful and I was sure it was croup.  We went straight to the doctor and were there quite awhile.  He had his first nebulizer treatment which caused tears for him and Avery but did help his chest sounds.  We left with a train nebulizer that Avery had to carry to the car and hurried home to get Avery to Bible Zone.  Sam went right to bed and Avery went to bed once she got home.  I slept in the guest room to be closer to Sam because we were expecting a bad night.  He coughed some but never woke up, so I was really pleased with that.

Avery, Sam, and I stayed home Tuesday.  Sam seemed to be doing much better, although mid-morning he sounded worse after one of his treatments.  Avery had some fun in a tent in the foyer.

After a good day, I thought we were through the worst of the croup.  I stayed up too late making a book from my Instagram photos and thought in the back of my mind that I might pay for that.

You can read about our croup scare on Wednesday here.

Even though Ned and I went to bed around 9 p.m. Wednesday night, I still needed some Pepsi to get going Thursday morning.  Ned stayed home with Sam and I went to school.  Ned earned another great daddy award through all of this.  When he left Wednesday morning to take Sam to the ER, we never imagined that they'd end up in Richmond.  He took good care of Sam, filled out forms, made decisions, kept me in the loop, and above all, kept it all together.  I'm not so sure how I would have done with any of that except for caring for Sam.  When I got to Richmond around 9 a.m. he hadn't even had anything to eat or drink.  He impressed the team of doctors when he whipped out his iPhone with a picture of Sam's Albuterol prescription from home.  When you know you'll forget, take a picture.  When you grow up with a daddy who does those things, you think all dads do.  Then you grow up and get married and realize that's not the case.  Ned plucks my nerves sometimes, but we are lucky to have him.  Anyway, I was glad for Thursday to come and go at school, and I prepared to be out Friday.  Avery and I got burgers on the way home because I knew she would eat some meat that way.  I did not account for all the cooking she's been watching, and dinner turned into a Pioneer Woman episode.

I took Sam back to the doctor Friday as recommended by the doctors in Richmond and dropped Avery off at Jennifer's on the way.  We were seen quickly and Sam checked out just fine.  They had a few of the Pentacel vaccines, so I had them give Sam one since they were out at his 6-month check.  One shot is a lot better than the 4 individual shots he would need to cover what's in the Pentacel, and we certainly don't need whooping cough or any of the other things it protects against.  We stopped at the grocery store for a few things since Sam has been to the store only a handful of times.  Sam was ready for a nap shortly after lunch since his morning nap ended around 9 when we got to the doctor's.  He didn't sleep as long as I hoped, but he has been sleeping at night despite the cough so I can't complain.  We picked up Avery then headed home for dinner.  Avery was full of whines and baby talk once we got home.  I was happy to hand the reigns to Ned and leave to get pajamas for Sam and groceries.  Everyone was asleep when I returned home, and Ned left to walk Dixie.  I found You've Got Mail on TV and enjoyed that for awhile.  We both fell asleep watching and woke up about 1 a.m.

Ned got up with the kids Saturday morning but I had to get up and make the muffins I promised Avery.  Ned took her to see Rob and I put Sam down for a nap.  He was waking up as they got home, but Avery and I had an important date.  I've been looking forward to this re-release for a LONG time.

She actually stayed focused for most of the movie and sat with me a great deal.  She's even more excited to be Cinderella for Halloween and for Sam to be Gus.  We had lunch after the movie and Ned left to go hunting, then the kids played in my room while I got ready.  This guy is into everything these days, including clean laundry, with the help of rolling.

Sam napped, Avery didn't, and then we left for Liam's birthday party.  It was a quiet party which was so nice, and Sam did so well, even staying in his seat for the majority of the time.  I had hoped Sam would take his 3rd nap on the way home, but no luck.  It was time for his dinner once we got home, and I ordered pizza for Avery and I.  That took a long time to arrive, so once we ate we headed upstairs so that I could put Sam to bed.  Avery was next, then I got busy making caramel apple cheesecake bars, doing laundry, working on Sam's baby book, and blogging.  Ned is home now and we each have a laptop on our lap, so perhaps it's time for a little conversation, which will probably really mean me falling asleep on the couch.

We're doing the same thing for Halloween! Aubrey is going to be Cinderella, Jude is going to be one of the mice, and Alaina is going to be a pumpkin :) Where did you get Sam's Gus outfit? I'm being super cheap, so I haven't had much luck finding anything for Jude.

Cute! Sam's hat is from Etsy. The lady makes mouse hats and was willing to see the mouse hat on to it. Other than that he's wearing a onesie and pants. I am all about cheap this year too. Avery has a Cinderella dress, and while I don't care for it, it's what we're using. I'll be glad to share the Etsy store if you need it. I found Cinderella mice costumes on eBay but they were expensive.
